Job Summary (Essential Functions)

The Assistant Mechanic helps maintain and repair a large fleet of golf course turf equipment, utility vehicles, and golf carts. This role ensures all machinery operates safely and efficiently to preserve premium playing conditions. The ideal candidate works closely with the Equipment Manager to perform preventive maintenance, diagnose mechanical issues, and ensure a safe, clean shop environment.

Job Tasks/Duties

• Perform routine oil changes, filter replacements, and general lubrication on all equipment.

• Inspect, adjust, and sharpen reel and rotary mower cutting units daily.

• Diagnose and repair minor issues in electrical, hydraulic, brake, and fuel systems.

• Maintain accurate service and repair logs for all club machinery and tools.

• Keep the maintenance shop clean, organized, and compliant with safety regulations.

• Operate specialized turf equipment on the golf course during peak maintenance periods if needed.

• Assist in welding, fabricating, and bodywork repairs as required.

• Performs other work duties and special projects as assigned by Supervisor/General Manager.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent trade school certification. Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in mechanical repairs (golf course, agricultural, or automotive experience preferred).

Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations

• Mechanical Aptitude: Basic understanding of internal combustion engines, hydraulics, and automotive electrical systems.

• Quality Focus: Sharp eye for detail regarding cutting-unit sharpness and quality of cut on turfgrass.

• Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively alongside golf course turf management and crew members.

• Problem Solving: Capability to diagnose minor mechanical failures and implement reliable repairs.

• Private Club Standards: Polite, professional demeanor consistent with a luxury country club environment.

Licenses and Special Requirements

• Valid Driver’s License required to operate club vehicles.

• Supplying a personal inventory of basic mechanical hand tools is highly preferred.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

• Physical Abilities: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.

• Mobility: Requires regular bending, crouching, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.

• Environment: Exposure to loud noises, vibration, fumes, moving mechanical parts, and outdoor weather conditions.

Classification: Non-Exempt/Hourly 

Starting at $27 p/hr
